HETI has a great opportunity for a Senior Geologist/Senior Environmental Scientist/Senior Engineer with 10+ years’ experience in the environmental field. 

This role will be responsible for providing technical and business skills and contribute to advanced solutions in the environmental, chemical, commercial, manufacturing, government, energy, financial, insurance, and/or legal sectors. This job is 100% remote.

The candidate should have experience managing consulting assignments, must work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams, is expected to be proficient in the analysis and communication of information, and must be able to work cooperatively with agencies, organizations, and individuals to guide decision-making. The successful candidate is also expected to be proficient in all facets of project management. He/she must demonstrate collaboration with colleagues throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Client Management & Communication:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and stakeholders, providing regular updates on project status and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with project teams, including environmental engineers, geologists, and technicians.
  • Communicate complex technical information to clients and stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.

Regulatory Compliance & Reporting:

  • Interact and coordinate with regulatory agencies to obtain necessary approvals, permits, and closure documentation.
  • Prepare and submit comprehensive reports, including site investigation reports, risk assessment reports, remedial action plans, progress reports, and closure reports.
  • Be current and continue to be current on environmental regulations and guidelines.

Remediation Planning/Implementation:

  • Develop and implement effective remediation plans based on the findings of site investigations and risk assessments.
  • Design and oversee the implementation of remediation strategies, which may include excavation, soil vapor extraction, groundwater treatment, in-situ bioremediation, or other appropriate methods.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, guidelines, and permits during the remediation process.

Site Assessments:

  • Manage/conduct comprehensive site investigations to identify potential sources of contamination, evaluate risks, and develop appropriate remediation strategies.
  • Collect soil, groundwater, and other environmental samples and analyze them in accordance with standard protocols and regulations.
  • Perform data interpretation, risk assessment, andmodeling to determine the extent and nature of contamination and its potential impact on human health and the environment.

Quality Control:

  • Implement quality control and assurance measures to ensure accurate and reliable data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Conduct periodic audits and reviews of project activities to verify compliance with project plans and regulations.
  • Identify and address any deviations or discrepancies in project execution promptly.

The Ideal Candidate should have:

  • Current PE or PG license
  • Bachelor’s Degree in environmental science, geology, engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years’ experience conducting site investigations remediation and third party evaluations
  • Solid understanding of environmental regulations, guidelines, and best practices related to contaminated site cleanup.
  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, regulatory agencies, and project teams.
  • Attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of environmental sampling techniques and laboratory analysis methods.

JOB DUTIES

  1. Coordinate with project site contractors.
  2. Prepare environmental site assessments and reports.
  3. Interface with clients on projects.
  4. Support project managers.
  • Conduct environmental site assessments and investigations according to project specifications
  • Perform soil screening and sampling using field equipment and approved methodologies
  • Conduct groundwater monitoring and collect samples for laboratory analysis
  • Document field observations and create detailed field notes for project records
  • Coordinate with contractors and clients on-site to ensure adherence to project plans
  • Communicate field conditions and project progress to project managers
  • Prepare technical reports summarizing investigation findings and data analysis
  • Implement remediation activities under the supervision of project managers
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations during field activities
  1. Prepare project bids.
  • Review RFPs and bid specifications for environmental remediation and investigation projects
  • Evaluate site conditions based on available information to determine scope of work
  • Calculate labor hours required for field sampling and investigation activities
  • Estimate equipment needs and associated costs for field activities
  • Develop technical approaches for environmental investigation and remediation based on site conditions
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for proposal submission
  • Draft technical sections of project proposals explaining methodology and approach
  • Coordinate with project managers to finalize comprehensive project bids for public and private clients
  1. Conduct industry scientific research.
  2. Conduct incidental site visits within NY/NJ/PA region for contaminant collection, including sampling and data compilation, as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Master’s degree in Applied Geosciences, Geology or closely related field.

Two years’ experience in the environmental consulting industry.

Experience to include:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of field safety protocols.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with contractors and clients.
  • Experience with ArcGIS.
  • OSHA Certification.

Must reside within NY/NJ/PA Metro Statistical Area to conduct incidental site visits within NY/NJ/PA region for contaminant collection, including sampling and data compilation, as needed.

TRAVEL:

Position requires regular travel to environmental sites within the NY/NJ/PA region for contaminant media collection and related field activities. This travel constitutes approximately 50% of work time, primarily within the state of New Jersey, but also  throughout the northeast region NY/NJ/PA. These trips are typically day trips but may occasionally require overnight stays depending on the project location and scope.

SALARY RANGE:

$82,160-85,000

HETI is currently searching for full-time Certified Industrial Hygienists/Industrial Hygienists to add to our expanding operations.

These positions will be responsible for providing industrial hygiene (IH)/environmental consulting services, including:

  • Indoor air quality assessment and other IH program design/implementation
  • Fungal and microbial contamination investigations
  • Human health risk assessments
  • Service a wide range of clients, particularly within the insurance industry
  • Provide expert witness testimony and litigation support services.
  • Assist our Director of Business Development in expanding the regional business for their respective offices.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Advanced degree in Biology, Chemistry, Industrial Hygiene or Occupational Safety, as well as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) professional registration (or equivalent work experience)
  • Ten or more years’ relevant experience in environmental/IH consulting, health & safety, and/or insurance
